An XCr Track Bike

Chain Stays

Last night I started in earnest on A. Correal’s track bike. It will be made with Columbus XCr stainless steel tubing and will have S&S couplers. I have my back purging system working perfectly now with a second argon tank dedicated just to this purpose. For a while I was trying to get away with one argon tank, but the back purge was robbing too much from the TIG torch. I welded the seat tube to the BB last night and brazed the chain stays to the dropouts. You can see in this picture a small coil of silver I made to insert in the chain stay before brazing. With the plug-style dropout this really is the best practice, as when you see silver exit the joint you know you have complete penetration.
